Does "hunderds of years in the future" mean..
There are more technological advancements in gw, like guns, cannons, etc. or is it just the same setting but saying "the heroes from a while back"
sorry if it was hard to understand, i tried :P |

GW's timeline (I'm going by the mouvelian aka Prophecies calendar) seems much like ours.
GW takes place in sort of the middle ages. 1072AE relates to the 11th century here on Earth, which is around the real middle ages. If they keep this correspondence, I think a few hundred years (and we're talking 300 or 400 at most) wouldn't be that much different. |

We already have cannons... Siege Turtle anyone?
I think that it will be great to see where Tyria is in a few hundred years. Imo it was a great idea to just keep the current continent and move it up a along the time line, instead of creating a whole new continent (although, since it is hundreds of years in, it will be a whole new continent. I mean keeping the current idea of Tyria.) |

I think it might be quite nice to see how the lands have evolved since our time now. I hope they have a "retro" type area... maybe an area that has survived and stayed intact from now?

I'm just hoping it wouldn't be a cheesy sci-fi and fantasy mix like the Final Fantasy games. I was really hoping things would stay medieval hardcore fantasy.

^If they did try to add scifi, as in lasers/killer robots/and alien space ships- well obviously that wouldn't work. What they would add would be steampunk- steampunk's always cool.
I'd say they'd have to have a degree of technological advancement to make it seem like time had actually passed. Otherwise it would seem too static. |

But the idea they give out is that everything we know as humans tech wise is wiped out because humans are at the brink of extinction. The house elf look alike race will probably be the only ones with new tech.

^Actually it's the Asura who are the technologically advanced ones. I did get the impressing of other races emerging, but I'd say human were far from extinction.

Having read the magazine a few times it deffo says humans are at the brink of destruction so its reasonable to assume the tech in GW will be replaced by different looking and working tech in GW2. Unless the human tech has been salvaged by the new emerging races. Obviously the house elves will have their own "superior" tech" |

Well, I'm still gonna play humans nevertheless.
If you take a look at some concepts released on GW2, you can clearly see the "edges". They look like a mix of mursaat/vabbian structures with a hint of "300 years after" |

I think by a few hundred years in the future they mean the actual date they plan on releasing GW2, knowing how Anet is with keeping promises of when things are to be released.

^There are already guns and cannons in GW1 so I doubt technology's going to slide backwards for GW2.

I doubt we'll see ford escorts driving around, or phasers and mobile phones in GW2.
If they did move the story into a more developed era, I doubt they would go any further then the start of the industrial revolution with steam engines and iron statues and bridges. While I think that would cool to have some technilogical advances, I wouldnt want it changing too much from a fantasy setting. Quote:
That skill is only used to stop you being overwhlemed during battles, and for the odd humourious effect. Not really something we need. Not when you have spells to turn yourself into Elves! Last edited by freekedoutfish; Mar 28, 2007 at 11:26 AM // 11:26.. |
